Roope Kantonen \u00e4r en jazztrummis, komposit\u00f6r och l\u00e4rare som uts\u00e5gs till \u00c5rets jazzmusiker 2022 av Jazzmuusikot ry. Han har en masterexamen i jazzmusik fr\u00e5n konservatoriet i Amsterdam. Kantonen flyttade fr\u00e5n Nederl\u00e4nderna till Finland 2021 och har spelat p\u00e5 tolv album samt upptr\u00e4tt med olika ensembler, inte bara i Finland utan \u00e4ven runtom i Europa. Han \u00e4r en v\u00e4lbekant figur i Helsingfors jazzscen, bland annat genom de jazzjam han arrangerar p\u00e5 S\u00f6rkan Ruusu.<\/p>\n

Med sitt debutalbum Introducing presenterar Roope Kantonen 3 en ny r\u00f6st p\u00e5 den finl\u00e4ndska jazzscenen. Verket tar lyssnaren till en originell v\u00e4rld d\u00e4r frihet, k\u00e4nslighet, subtilitet och dynamiskt samspel m\u00f6ts. Bandets unika sound bygger p\u00e5 avsaknaden av ett harmoniskt ackordinstrument och den excentriska klangen av basklarinetten. Trion har h\u00e4mtat inspiration fr\u00e5n b\u00e5de traditionell jazz och modernt, experimentellt tonspr\u00e5k. Introducing best\u00e5r av originalkompositioner fr\u00e5n alla tre bandmedlemmar och r\u00f6r sig mellan djupa, meditativa stunder, intensiv improvisation och rytmisk lekfullhet.<\/p>\n

P\u00e5 basklarinett h\u00f6r vi Max Zenger, k\u00e4nd fr\u00e5n bland annat Kaisa\u2019s Machine och UMO, och p\u00e5 kontrabas Juuso Rinta, som spelar i Hector Lepe Quartet och Tuomo Uusitalo Trio.<\/p>\n

Denna konsert \u00e4r speciell eftersom trions g\u00e4st \u00e4r den nederl\u00e4ndska basklarinettisten, komposit\u00f6ren och filosofen Joris Roelofs.<\/p>\n

Joris Roelofs b\u00f6rjade studera klarinett vid sex \u00e5rs \u00e5lder och lade till saxofon till sin repertoar vid tolv. Vid 16 \u00e5rs \u00e5lder var han solist med Orkest van het Oosten och framf\u00f6rde klarinettpartiet i Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue. \u00c5ren 2003\u20132018 var han ledande altsaxofonist i Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw och spelade i fem \u00e5r i Vienna Art Orchestra. Under sin karri\u00e4r har han samarbetat med jazzstj\u00e4rnor som Brad Mehldau, Lionel Loueke, Jeff Ballard och Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, samt nyligen med UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra.<\/p>\n

Efter att ha tagit sin masterexamen vid konservatoriet i Amsterdam 2007 flyttade Joris till New York, d\u00e4r han spelade in sju egna album, inklusive debutskivan Introducing Joris Roelofs (2008). Hans senaste album, Rope Dance: Light-Footed Music for All and None (2021), fick femstj\u00e4rniga recensioner i b\u00e5de De Volkskrant och BBC Music Magazine.<\/p>\n

Som komposit\u00f6r har Joris skrivit musik f\u00f6r en m\u00e4ngd olika ensembler, fr\u00e5n solofagott till storband och symfoniorkestrar. F\u00f6r n\u00e4rvarande arbetar han som koordinator f\u00f6r jazzklarinettavdelningen vid konservatoriet i Amsterdam. F\u00f6rutom att undervisa i instrument ger han f\u00f6rel\u00e4sningar om musik och filosofi. Vid sidan av sin karri\u00e4r som musiker och pedagog h\u00e5ller han p\u00e5 med en doktorsavhandling om Nietzsche, improvisation och id\u00e9n om frihet, och \u00e4r medlem i den internationella Nietzsche-forskningsgruppen i Stuttgart, Tyskland.<\/p>\n
