I Mikko Pettinen Why Not -kvartettens musik g\u00e5r akustisk och elektrisk jazz hand i hand, kryddad med f\u00e4rger fr\u00e5n v\u00e4rldens musik och influenser h\u00e4mtade ur omgivningen. Kvartetten leds av trumpetaren Mikko Pettinen, k\u00e4nd bland annat fr\u00e5n UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra och Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble.<\/p>\n

Mikko Pettinen Why Not grundades h\u00f6sten 2018, och ensemblemedlemmarna utm\u00e4rker sig genom sin starka multi instrumentalism. F\u00f6rutom bl\u00e5sinstrument spelar Pettinen \u00e4ven keyboard och sjunger, och han f\u00e4rgs\u00e4tter sitt ljud med olika effekter. Bl\u00e5saren Joakim Bergh\u00e4lls instrumentarsenal omfattar, f\u00f6rutom barytonsaxofon, \u00e4ven basklarinett.<\/p>\n

Trumpetaren Mikko Pettinen (f. 1974), utbildad vid Sibelius-Akademins jazzavdelning, \u00e4r mest k\u00e4nd f\u00f6r sin l\u00e5ngvariga roll i UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, sitt framg\u00e5ngsrika kvartettprojekt MP4 samt sitt elvamannaband Happy People, som spelar soul. Pettinen har medverkat p\u00e5 \u00f6ver hundra skivor tillsammans med ledande finl\u00e4ndska musiker \u2013 fr\u00e5n Paleface till Anssi Kela \u2013 och har komponerat och arrangerat musik f\u00f6r barn, pop, soul och gospel. Sedan 2013 har Pettinen spelat tillsammans med Joakim Bergh\u00e4ll i den internationellt framg\u00e5ngsrika Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble, och id\u00e9n till deras gemensamma jazzkvartett f\u00f6ddes ur deras musikaliska kemi och v\u00e4nskap.<\/p>\n

Ensemblen framf\u00f6r huvudsakligen musik fr\u00e5n Mikko Pettinens tionde album \u2013 Patient Patient. Albumet \u00e4r en personlig och gripande sjukdomsskildring och samtidigt en betydande milstolpe i Pettinens liv. Han beskriver skivan som en p\u00e5minnelse om hur viktigt det \u00e4r att stanna upp och lyssna till sig sj\u00e4lv mitt i livets tempo.<\/p>\n

\u201dM\u00e5nga sjukdomar b\u00f6rjar med sm\u00e5 symptom som \u00e4r l\u00e4tta att ignorera n\u00e4r livet \u00e4r fullt av roliga saker, konserter och turn\u00e9er. Ofta sker stoppet f\u00f6rst n\u00e4r symptomen hindrar en fr\u00e5n att arbeta. Om den h\u00e4r skivan f\u00e5r ens en tveksam person att s\u00f6ka v\u00e5rd i tid, har den fyllt sitt syfte,\u201d ber\u00e4ttar Pettinen.<\/p>\n

Kompositionerna p\u00e5 albumet v\u00e4xte fram n\u00e4r Pettinen bearbetade de k\u00e4nslor \u2013 r\u00e4dsla, f\u00f6rvirring, frustration och os\u00e4kerhet \u2013 som diagnosen av den ultras\u00e4llsynta ytliga hemosiderosen (superficial siderosis) v\u00e4ckte i mars 2023. Tre stycken skrevs under sjukledigheten efter en \u00f6ronoperation, medan titelsp\u00e5ret Patient Patient bygger p\u00e5 den kryptiska texten i kirurgens rapport.<\/p>\n
