De drivande krafterna bakom ensemblen \u00e4r de tv\u00e5 saxofonisterna Damien Sabatier och G\u00e9rald Chevillon, som ocks\u00e5 grundade Imp\u00e9rial Quartet \u00e5r 2010. Vid jaZZanti konserten h\u00f6r vi dock toppsaxofonisten Hugues Mayot i st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r Chevillon; han spelar bland annat i Franska nationella jazzorkestern.<\/p>\n

P\u00e5 sitt femte album forts\u00e4tter Imperial Quartet att utforska Centraleuropas folktraditioner och de omr\u00e5den som genomkorsas av Donau. Som en kulturell tr\u00e5d fungerar floden som symbol f\u00f6r kretslopp, m\u00f6ten och den kulturella sammanblandningen mellan \u00f6st och v\u00e4st.<\/p>\n

Kvartetten h\u00e4mtar inspiration fr\u00e5n folkliga traditioner \u2013 balkansk, ungersk, romsk och klezmermusik \u2013 och lyfter fram deras emotionella djup och rytmiska rikedom. Modalitet, asymmetriska taktarter och virtuositet v\u00e4vs samman i ett fritt tonspr\u00e5k som h\u00e4mtar sin n\u00e4ring ur improvisation. Melodier formas, sm\u00e4lts samman och \u00e5terskapas m\u00e5lmedvetet i en samtida form.<\/p>\n

Som ett verkligt laboratorium f\u00f6r experiment med ljud och rytm komponerar och arrangerar ensemblen kollektivt i s\u00f6kandet efter ett organiskt klangmaterial. Med v\u00e4xlingar mellan introspektiv mjukhet och kraftfulla energiutbrott \u00e4r Dunav Magika en poetisk och magisk ljudresa d\u00e4r jazzen f\u00f6r en dialog med de europeiska kulturernas levande minne.<\/p>\n
