Pianist Juho Valjakka, in addition to his trio as a candidacy for Jazz Emma, has also focused especially on solo piano music in his artistic work. Valjakka, who has been recognized for his strong pianism and musical vision, enjoys the challenges and opportunities of perform alone, and his interest in the acoustic piano’s sonant characteristics and nuances is particularly evident at the solo concert.
At the jaZZanti Concert in the restaurant Laulumiehet, Valjakka interprets his own compositions, which have been influenced by his work in both jazz music and Western art music. There is also a significant role in the free improvisations, into which Valjakka throws himself spontaneously combining pieces of his compositions with new ideas created at the time of the performance.
Juho Valjakka is a pianist, composer and arranger specializing in jazz music and improvised music. Valjakka released his debut album, “Liminal Spaces” in the spring of 2022, which was jazz Emma candinate. He has played on Umo Helsinki Jazz Orchestran, Riikka Keränen Quartet’s, Anna Emmeluth Quartet’s and Perussastamala’s albums. The young pianist have heard with many top Finnish musicians and in addition with John Hollenbeck, Nicole Glover, Godwin Louis, Jonathan Barber, Efrat Alony and Sinne Eeg.
