Happy International Jazz Day

In 2011, UNESCO appointed 30.4. as International Jazz Day, and onwards, jazz as an art form has been officially recognized as a promoter of peace, intercultural dialogue, diversity, and respect for human rights and dignity. International Jazz Day highlights jazz and its diplomatic mission to unite people around the world. Like the jazz legend, Herbie Hancock, the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, has already said that there is hope and solidarity in jazz that we all need in these times.
In 2022, saxophonist Timo Lassy and double bassist Kaisa Mäensivu will be the domestic faces of the Jazz Finland’s Jazz Day campaign.
“The universal language of jazz music brings people together, pulsating for peace and tolerance,” Lassy shares of his own vision of the role of jazz in the world.
“Jazz music is a language of human-created communication that conveys emotions, empathy and joy. Its existence convinces me that there is a lot of good in us people” says Mäensivu about the role of jazz today. on April 30th!
