For Oskari Siirtola, compositions are small little worlds, acting as conduits for sprawling and multifaceted stories that hide a sense of dark mischief within their melancholic melodies. These past years he has delved into the world of big band music, which has left its mark on his nuanced and intricately crafted arrangements.
The group – assembled from young greats – approaches the music with a playfulness that strikes a balance with its mournful and introspective musical language. Siirtola has been recognized as a rising talent for his efforts as a bassist and composer. Now, he emerges as a bandleader.
