Kadi Vija Key Project – Extended Powerspots record release consert
20.1.2023 @ 19:00 - 20:30
Villa Hakasalmi
Kadi Vija Key Project
Kadi Vija: vocals
Max Zenger: bass clarinet
Tuomo Dahlblom: guitar
Tuomas Timonen: drums
The exceptional instrumentation of the Kadi Vija Key Project, consisting of the best musicians of domestic jazz, creates a soft but attention-grabbing sound, which is seamlessly supported by Vija’s unique sound art. On the Extended Powerspots album released by Flame Jazz Records in November, the musicians’ dialogue is even more magical. In the chamber music-like Ensemble, Max Zenger from Turku plays bass clarinet, Tuomo Dahlblom plays guitar and Tuomas Timonen plays drums. The musicians have gained fame, e.g. in the ranks of Maxxxtet, Herd and UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra.
With the new album, composer Vija persistently listens to her own instinct. She has tried to give everything, which at first seems strange and maybe even wrong, a second chance. The songs on the album explore nudity, vulnerability and concentration on details.
– As an artist, I have strengthened my own vision of how I want to express my music. More and more I experience my human voice as an instrument, and at the same time I have realized that it has its own limits, like all other instruments. I have a growing desire to try everything a bit strange and unheard of, and I notice that Tuomas, Tuomo and Max are doing the same! The songs give space and opportunities for experimentation. The boundaries have definitely and rightly been broken with this album, Vija says.
