Sclavis – Pifarély – Courtois & Kari Ikonen
4.10.2021 @ 19:00 - 20:30
Villa Hakasalmi
Sclavis – Pifarély – Courtois
Louis Sclavis: clarinets
Dominique Pifarély: violin
Vincent Courtois: cello
Sclavis – Pifarély – Courtois is an excellent trio of French virtuosos! Louis Sclavis has shown himself to be one of the most creative musicians in jazz since the 1980s. Dominique Pifarély is a generous soloist and one of the important composers of the European jazz scene. Vincent Courtois has always shown his ability to be original and creative both with his own bands and as a guest invited by others. Together, these three form an amazing chamber jazz trio with lively and passionate music. These companions, which have known each other for 25 years, know how to tell us breathtakingly beautiful fresh stories, and the music naturally flows from ethnic visions to total improvisation.
Their debut album Asian Fields Variations was recorded at the famous La Buissonne studio in September 2017 as artistic director of ECM record company Manfred Eicher.
Kari Ikonen
Kari Ikonen: piano and prepared piano
Kari Ikonen’s solo piano repertoire “Impressions, Improvisations & Compositions”, the music of the Kandinsky-inspired album consists of Ikonen’s compositions and improvisations, in which the piano’s vocal range has been taken to new dimensions with preparations and special technologies. Influences are heard e.g. Japanese koto music, and especially Arabic music, which Ikonen is particularly fond of. The Maqam scales of Arabic music with their micro intervals are accomplished on the piano with the help of the Maqiano device developed by the artist himself!
In the concert we will also hear Kari together with the trio!
